Match report: Brighton 0 - 1 Town

MATT GLENNON put his secret penalty-saving formula to good use once again as buoyant Town bagged back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

The back-in-form keeper pounced low to his right with 16 minutes left to beat away Nicky Forster’s driven spot kick and preserve the lead provided by Michael Collins early in the second half, his third goal in as many games.

They were moments to delight 281 frozen travelling fans at the spartan Withdean Stadium and rewarded a Town performance packed with grit, application and commitment which suggests a League I climb (Town are currently 13th) is far from out of the question.

This victory to complement the one at Leeds was not about Glennon or Collins, however, nor was it about any department outshining any other on a tight, unforgiving pitch which helped restrict flowing football to a premium.

Success was all about ‘Team Huddersfield’ showing the sort of character the fans love and expect – the sort which canny man-manager Gerry Murphy and coaches Graham Mitchell and John Vaughan have brought bubbling to the surface.

It oozed from every stretching sinew as Brighton posed plenty of threat and, indeed, hit the woodwork twice through 10-goal Glenn Murray (23 minutes) and a 40-yard Bradley Johnson free-kick six minutes from time which would have been the goal of the 21st century had it gone in.
