Match report: Town Reserves 4 - 2 Grimsby Reserves

LIVEWIRE Keigan Parker bagged a brace to kick off Lee Clark’s Town career with a win.

Parker pounced on 10 and 37 minutes as Town Reserves sunk the Mariners from Grimsby 4-2 – with all six goals scored during a frenetic first half at Emley’s Welfare Ground.

Town, who were watched by former boss Peter Jackson along with Grimsby’s Mike Newell, fielded a strong side with Parker, returning from a three-match suspension, partnered by Phil Jevons up front, while Chris Lucketti David Unsworth provided the experience in defence.

But it was Academy graduate Daniel Codman, in his first season as a professional, who stole the early limelight when he headed in Town’s fifth-minute opener after Parker picked him out with a well-flighted cross.

Unfortunately, Codman had to be substituted at half-time after he suffered an ankle injury.

Parker then bagged his first on 10 minutes when irrepressible midfield workhorse Jon Worthington threaded a forward pass through the centre.

Parker left the young Grimsby defence trailing in his wake and, as goalkeeper Leigh Overton came out to narrow the angle, the striker had the simplest of tasks to tuck away his shot.
