Match report: Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Hereford

Clark was quick to credit the supporters, all but 214 of whom were backing his boys, because they played a big part.

It was an excellent turn-out on the last Saturday before Christmas, traditionally a difficult one on which to attract the punters.

And the atmosphere created was excellent, with the presence of Town fans in the Galpharm’s ‘away’ end continuing to make a real difference.

Clark had warned Town followers they might have to be patient, and he was right.

His side could have found themselves a goal down within 60 seconds had Robbie Williams not cleared off the line as Josh Gowling met Lionel Ainsworth’s corner with a powerful header.

Steve Guinan, Andy Williams and Gowling again all had further efforts for Hereford before Town came to life by creating four good chances in five minutes.

Jim Goodwin shot just wide from the edge of the penalty area while Williams twice tested goalkeeper Craig Samson with headers before Roberts’ drive was held at the second attempt.

Ian Craney then shot over from distance before Goodwin fired too high from Michael Collins’ neat 19th-minute pull-back.
