Match report: Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Hereford
Dec 22 2008 By Doug Thomson
A Michael Collins shot which was deflected for a corner led to the big breakthrough, with Roberts’ flag kick being hacked clear, but only as far as Cadamarteri, who returned a looping cross which Guinan prodded into the path of Clarke, who fired in his second goal of the season from close range.
Town weren’t out of the woods, because soon after, a Williams header fell straight into the path of Guinan before the left-back recovered to make a crucial block.
Then Smithies pulled off a fine 73rd-minute save from Ainsworth, with Guinan blasting the loose ball over when he should have buried it.
Town created a two-goal cushion when Roberts fired home with the outside of his left foot after playing two one-twos with Jevons, but Smithies still had to make saves from Guinan and Taylor to preserve the clean sheet.
