TOWN’S hopes of a seventh win in eight League I games were comprehensively crushed as Carlisle belied their lowly position to chalk up their first victory in five.
Lee Clark’s men suffered as the Cumbrians made a strong start and never really looked like recovering as their Brunton Park bogey continued.
It’s now seven visits to the Northern outpost without a win and six defeats in that time as goals from Danny Graham (in the 12th minute), Michael Bridges (56th) and Graham Kavanagh (75th) sealed a home success which in all honesty, might have been even more convincing.
Town, who always looked susceptible to the counter-attack, didn’t have an effort on target until Michael Collins’ deflected shot in the 66th minute.
They managed two more before the close of play, but only after Carlisle had put the game beyond reach with their third goal.
Home widemen Cleveland Taylor and Jeff Smith were a handful, Graham was lively and Bridges, the ex-Sunderland and Leeds striker on loan from Hull, showed plenty of nous to ensure Town’s defence could never settle.
