Match report: Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Scunthorpe United
Dec 29 2008 by Dougie Thomson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Promising breaks by Jevons and Parker were ruled offside, while Jevons met Clarke’s 18th-minute long throw nicely, only to shoot over.
Free-kicks by Roberts and Robbie Williams had Scunthorpe scrambling while Clarke headed too high on 36 minutes.
Parker fired over, and was then denied by Murphy, while McCann drilled a low shot wide and Hooper had one well saved by Smithies as the sides traded chances early in the second half.
But Town, for whom Roberts had a 58th-minute goal ruled out for handball, were getting on top by the time Goodwin headed them in front, and could have had a second in the 81st minute, only for Michael Collins, who was played in by substitute Ian Craney, to have his shot smothered.
Clark’s side weren’t having it all their own way, however, since Scunthorpe had decent chances through McCann, whose effort was blocked by Butler, Alan Wright, who cut in from the right only to shoot too high, May, who drove over on the turn, and Hooper, who brought another good save from Smithies, before Hayes failed to hit the target from an inviting position.
There was further frustration for Scunthorpe when Ian Morris, one of the three substitutes Adkins had brought on, was forced off with a knee injury.
All 10 remaining men were in the Town half when Collins passed to Cadamarteri, who held off Wright’s illegal-looking challenge and teed up Roberts for the final touch.
