Match report: Huddersfield Town 1 - 1 Oldham Athletic

Town pushed, pressed and probed, but managed to produce only two genuine efforts on target before Collins counted.

Oldham created only one more after Allott’s opener, and that was from the same player just six minutes later, when his low shot was palmed away for a corner by Alex Smithies.

The goal had come from a flag kick, flighted in from the Oldham right by Kevin Maher and only partially cleared, giving the former Chesterfield midfielder the chance to unleash a sizzling volley which flew into Smithies’ top left-hand corner and gave the teenager no chance.

Town, for whom Danny Cadamarteri delivered a string of teasing crosses early on, had already had the ball into the Oldham net, with Keigan Parker prodding it home after Fleming spilled a Gary Roberts shot, only for the Scottish striker to be ruled offside.

Clark’s men stuck to their task despite going behind, and Fleming did well to hold a Roberts corner under pressure from Nathan Clarke before Parker hooked another Roberts flag kick over from close range.

Roberts and Parker then combined to tee up Jim Goodwin, but the combative midfielder’s 15th-minute shot flew too high.

The frustration continued as Kelvin Lomax’s block denied Parker before Collins shot wide from a Phil Jevons lay-off.
