Match report: Leicester City 4 - 2 Huddersfield Town
Jan 26 2009 by Dougie Thomson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Town had a 62nd-minute escape when Smithies spilled a cross and Andy King’s shot was blocked.
But they were punished in the 64th when Matt Oakley’s quickly-taken free-kick allowed Dyer to cross.
With Howard making a nuisance of himself, the ball was only partially cleared, and Leicester’s top scorer Fryatt forced in his 24th of the season, with Town’s handball claims ignored.
The home side were now stamping their authority on proceedings and after Smithies turned Howard’s shot against his left-hand post and out for a corner, the fourth goal arrived from yet another flag kick.
The busy Oakley again delivered a teasing cross which Howard headed back across goal for on-loan Liverpool defender Jack Hobbs to nod in.
Howard shot wide after good build-up play by Oakley and Berner while Hobbs showed his defensive skills by making a crucial interception as Collins played a one-two with substitute Ian Craney and darted into the area.
After three attempts, Clark is still waiting for his first away win as manager, but if Town can reproduce the best aspects of this performance at Yeovil, that could change.
