Pre-season match report: Corby 1 - 4 Huddersfield Town

JP Kissock

THEO ROBINSON shone at the Rockingham Triangle as Town overpowered their Blue Square Premier hosts.

Nobody will be reading too much into this friendly scoreline, but a hat trick for Lee Clark’s new recruit from Watford will be a big confidence booster in the build-up to the League I campaign.

There was also a welcome first goal in Town colours for Lee Novak as the new-look League I side proved too strong for the men from Northamptonshire in front of 475.

Two assists by last season’s player of the year Gary Roberts and a lively left-wing display by trialist John-Paul Kissock were the other notable features of Town’s third pre-season outing.

Town needed only 10 minutes to go ahead, with Anthony Pilkington playing Roberts clear down the left.

The former Ipswich man advanced and sent in a low cross which Robinson stroked home at the far post.

The same combination paid dividends two minutes later as Robinson headed home Roberts’ cross from eight yards out.

Corby pulled a goal back against the run of play after 23 minutes when Joe Francis converted a centre from former Northampton man Lawrie Dudfield.
