Match report: Yeovil Town 0 - 1 Huddersfield Town
Feb 1 2010 by Dougie Thomson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Yeovil’s on-loan Reading keeper Alex McCarthy made a great diving save, but the ball spun away and Eccleston reacted fastest to whack the ball home left footed.
Antony Kay fired just wide from the edge of the area as Town searched for a second, although there was a nervy moment when Tudur Jones received Williams’ pass in space, only to fire over from 20 yards out.
Trotman’s penalty-area foul on Ryan Mason handed Yeovil a route back into the game in the final minute of the first half, but much to Town’s relief, former Ipswich man Bowditch was wildly off target from the spot.
Roberts had the first attempt of the second half, lobbing over from distance, while Eccleston had a low shot held by McCarthy in the 49th minute.
But Yeovil were looking livelier, and Mason, like Caulker on loan from Tottenham, headed wide before Smithies saved a Williams shot, then Craig Alcock’s follow-up header.
The keeper dealt with Mason’s 65th-minute shot on the turn is similarly composed fashion, while Lee Novak, on for Eccleston, fired in a decent 70th-minute effort which McCarthy held at the second attempt.
There were a nervy moments for the travelling supporters when Gavin Tomlin fired a shot across the face of goal and just wide in the 82nd minute, then when Andrew Welsh latched onto fellow substitute Tomlin’s pass only to fire off target in the 85th.
But Town finished the stronger and despite five minutes of time added on, Yeovil were unable to seriously trouble them again.
