Robbie Simpson smashes hat-trick in reserves rout

ROBBIE SIMPSON notched an eye-catching hat trick as Town Reserves powered past Rotherham United 6-0.

It was a fourth successive totesport.com League victory for Paul Stephenson’s side, who included trialist Taser Hassan on the right wing.

The 18-year-old, in fact, delighted a crowd of 162 with a cracking opening goal in only the fifth minute, while James Spencer and James Berrett were also on target as Town gained revenge for their 2-0 defeat at the Don Valley Stadium in November.

Hassan had already teed up a volley for Spencer by the time the former Portsmouth and Gillingham youth player found the net, rifling a right-foot drive past keeper Daniel Hancock off the underside of the bar.

It was the perfect finish to a raking through ball from Robbie Williams and, with that in the bank, Town never looked back.

With skipper Nathan Clarke commanding alongside Krystian Pearce at the back, keeper Simon Eastwood had only infrequent shots to deal with and it was no surprise when Spencer increased the Town advantage with a curling drive after 15 minutes.

Simpson notched his first, three minutes later, from a quick and accurate Berrett free-kick and the midfielder was on target himself a minute before the break, jinking past a couple of would-be tacklers before dispatching a low angled drive.
