Exeter City 1 - 4 Huddersfield Town: Examiner match report

DANNY CADAMARTERI was the star turn on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon as Town enjoyed a highly productive trip to Devon.

Back at the Galpharm after his stint with Dundee United, the 31-year-old was put through the new boys initiation ceremony of singing to the rest of the players in the team hotel on the eve of the match.

But he let his feet do the talking at windy St James Park as Lee Clarks side, having withstood pressure in the first half when Exeter had the advantage of the elements, put on a show of strength after the break to breeze to a valuable victory.

Brought off the bench for his second debut as a 53rd-minute replacement for Alan Lee, who had done a sterling job, Cadamarteri scored the opener within two minutes, then had a hand in Towns other three goals, scored by Gary Roberts, Anthony Pilkington and Kevin Kilbane, before Daniel Nardiello fired the home consolation two minutes into stoppage time.

The lads have been brilliant since the moment I walked back through the door, smiled Cadamarteri.

I quite like a sing-song, so I treated them to a bit of Scottish culture with a song called Ally Bally.

Scott Arfield and Gary Naysmith seemed to like it, although Im not so sure about the rest of the boys, but at least it was something different.

That just what Cadamarteri provides on the pitch, and his introduction certainly did the trick as Town took a firm grip after coming through a stern examination up to half-time.

Hed had just one touch of the ball before pouncing as the excellent Jamie McCombe headed on keeper Ian Bennetts free-kick.

A neat piece of control and a well-placed low shot later, the ball was nestling in the back of the net and Towns 294 travelling fans in a 4,786 crowd were celebrating.

There was more to come as Town continued to push forward.

Joey Gudjonssons firmly-struck 58th-minute shot from Roberts cross was on target but cannoned into defender Richard Duffy, who knew little about it.
