Match Report: MK Dons 1 Huddersfield Town 3

HAPPY Easter! A great Good Friday win – and the pressure’s all on Southampton.

Both sides missed penalties, but Town found the finishing touch through Scott Arfield, Lee Peltier and Danny Cadamarteri long before Mathias Kouo-Doumbe headed MK’s late consolation.

And the victory, celebrated by a magnificent away following of 2,819, put Town back in the automatic promotion places ahead of Southampton’s visit to Brighton this afternoon.

With Town chasing their fifth consecutive away win and eighth in 11 matches overall, boss Lee Clark named the same side as started the 1-0 win at Charlton last time out.

Injured ace Anthony Pilkington was a spectator at the impressive stadium:mk, the first away game he had attended since suffering a broken leg and ankle dislocation in March.

MK, aiming for an eighth victory in 10 and to complete set of home wins over the other members of the top six, recalled top scorer Sam Baldock after an ankle injury.

The home side made a busy start, with Baldock’s dangerous run being ended by Gary Naysmith’s well-timed tackle and Ian Bennett saving from Daniel Powell inside 90 seconds.

Experienced Luke Chadwick, the former Manchester United midfielder who played at Norwich when Clark was assistant manager there, was a lynchpin in MK’s early attacks, and his pass set up Powell for another shot in the 10th minute, with Bennett again making a crucial block.

Town were struggling to get a foothold, and when they did win a 14th-minute corner, Gary Roberts’ delivery was allowed to fly across the face of goal untouched and harmlessly out of play.

Referee Roger East upset Town fans with his award of a 21st-minute corner taken by Peter Leven, but the Wiltshire official then waved away MK defender Gary MacKenzie’s claim that he was pushed in the back as he headed over.

Within two minutes, the vocal visiting supporters were on their feet as Town took the lead against the run of play.
