Draw now enough to win title for Reserves

DANNY SCHOFIELD and Lee Fowler will bolster Town Reserves' bid for title glory at Scunthorpe tomorrow.

The midfield pair will get second team run-outs at Glanford Park (2.00) as they bid to cement starting spots for Saturday's final home League I game against Swindon.

Experienced Schofield, below par despite scoring in the 2-2 home draw with Colchester, had to make do with coming off the bench in Saturday's 1-0 win at Brentford.

Fowler, who has started the last two first-team matches, has asked to play in the crucial closing Pontin's Holidays League Division I East fixture.

Second-placed Scunthorpe's 1-0 defeat at Boston yesterday means a draw will be enough for Town to clinch the second-team title and the one promotion spot up for grabs.

But they will be going all out for a 10th successive League win.

"We said back at Christmas that we were capable of going on a winning run and that's just what's happened," said Martyn Booty, who coaches the Reserves along with John Dungworth.

"It's pointless going into a game trying to draw it, and there's no reason why we shouldn't win.

"Players want to win whatever level it's at, and by getting promotion to the Pontin's League Premier Division, we'll be testing ourselves against stronger sides on a regular basis, which will benefit us all."

Booty added: "Danny will play because he got only 20 minutes down at Brentford.

"Lee, who is enjoying being back in the first-team frame, was keen to have another run-out just to keep himself ticking over."

Versatile Nat Brown, who came on as a late substitute at Brentford, experienced Rob Edwards and first-team squad strikers Junior Mendes and John McAliskey will also be involved tomorrow.

Reserves - Senior, Lloyd, Hardy, Brown, Edwards, Schofield, Young, Fowler, Shaw, Mendes, McAliskey. Subs: to be confirmed.
