Hopes remain alive!

TOWN'S final-day opponents Wrexham are still alive in Coca-Cola League I.

Needing to avoid defeat at Port Vale last night to maintain slim hopes of survival, Denis Smith's side came away with a 2-0 win.

It means they travel to Stockport on Saturday eight points from safety with three games to play.

Goals from Andy Holt on 21 minutes and Chris Llewellyn three minutes before half time did the trick at Vale Park to move Wrexham up to third from bottom above relegated Peterborough and Stockport.

Town, of course, travel to the Racecourse Ground on the final day of the season, May 7.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday's promotion hopes have been hit with news that Steve MacLean will be out for the rest of the season.

The Scottish frontman suffered a broken foot in March.
