Huddersfield Town 1, Bristol City 0

It was far from easy, but Jackson's men stuck willingly to their task and kept the chances coming.

Abbott, who had crashed a brilliant shot against the bar on 23 minutes and missed his kick with the goal at his mercy seconds later, directed two headers wide when it seemed easier to score.

He also went for a near-post drive when a pull-back would have been better, but his second goal in as many games was worth the wait when it came.

It owed much to Holdsworth's persistence down the right and he shaped to cross three times before actually delivering the ball for Abbott to guide home.

It was the sort of finish of which Andy Booth would have been proud - and the big man wasn't far away from notching his first of the campaign either.

Rising above marker Matt Heywood to meet a 33rd-minute free-kick, Booth saw his poweful downward header hacked from the line by a defender with keeper Steve Phillips well beaten.

Booth also poked another shot inches wide from Danny Schofield's clever chip through as Town began to probe in the second half.
