Ex-Town men to boost Bacup

TOWN old boys Ben Thornley and Ian Hughes have teamed up at non-League Bacup Borough.

Ex-Manchester United man Thornley, who joined the North West Counties club as a player last season, has been appointed head coach by boss Brent Peters.

And Hughes is captaining the top-flight side this season.

Peters said: "Ben is a major appointment to my backroom staff. Since he has been a player he has impressed me with his dedication and attitude.

"This is an important appointment because it now gives me greater flexibility to be able to run the rule over our opponents.

"It also allows me to be able to watch potential new signings in action with the full knowledge that my players will not be affected in any way because Ben will have full responsibility.

"Ben has had an excellent football education having come through the ranks at Old Trafford and played for some really good clubs.

"This will be vital to the younger members of the squad, particularly the ones that have just been released from League clubs."

Peters added: "I am delighted Ian Hughes has agreed to be club captain. He is respected by everyone at the club and his leadership qualities are second to none both on and off the field.'
