Jackson delighted by win

PETER JACKSON has back-to-back home wins in sight to cement Town's challenge.

Delighted by the 1-0 victory against Tranmere, Jackson vowed:

"It was a fantastic win and Bournemouth won't be looking forward to coming here on Saturday.

"Full credit to the lads for playing some terrific football and if we hadn't got three points it would have been an absolute travesty.

"We had 85% of the game, the clean sheet was vital and, if Pawel Abbott had scored that first-half penalty, I'm sure we'd have won more easily.

"I'm really pleased because last season we conceded a lot of late goals ourselves and it cost us a place in the play-offs. Now, it's us who are looking the danger late on and that's just great."

Jackson added: "The only thing we were missing last night was some cutting edge around the box and a good final pass, but I was always confident we would score at some stage, even late on.

"I thought the two Clarkes were simply excellent for us defensively, we attacked really well and we showed again that never-say-die attitude I demand."

* Academy keeper Alex Smithies is in the England Under 16 squad for the Victory Shield tournament from October 10 -14. The first match is v Wales at Telford.
