Hand set for test in debut!

IRISH winger James Hand makes his Town first-team debut in tonight's LDV Vans Trophy tie at Boston United (7.45).

It's an early 19th birthday present for the skilful player from Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, who has impressed in the Reserves.

Hand - who turns 19 on Saturday - features in a 16-strong squad in which the eldest players (Paul Rachubka and Gary Taylor-Fletcher) are just 24 years of age.

Also in line for possible first senior starts are Matthew Young - who made his debut as a substitute against Walsall - and full-back Aaron Hardy.

"I know it's a young side but all of them have done well in the Reserves and James Hand is one who has had some impressive performances," said Jackson.

"This is a good chance to give him a debut on the lefthand side because I've been pleased with him for a few months.

"He's strong, good in the air, clever on the ball and he puts in a quality cross."

In the absence of Andy Booth, Taylor-Fletcher and Pawel Abbott will be aiming to make the most of those against a League II side with striker Noel Whelan, keeper Nathan Abbey and midfielder Paul Ellender back after bans and unbeaten at home since March 26 (Yeovil).

"I want the young lads to express themselves and I know they won't let me down," said Jackson.
