Davy disappointed by demonstration

"We all want to deliver the promotion which eluded us last season, and the budget has been increased significantly to enable Peter Jackson to bring in the two new players and to increase the salaries of existing players, which inevitably occurs as the younger ones progress.

"But as I have stressed many times, I cannot countenance putting the future of this club in jeopardy.

"I do not give many guarantees, but I gave one when I rescued the club three years and one month ago.

"That was that myself and the board would never again allow the club to get into the state it was in.

"I also said there would be decisions taken which might not please fans in the short term but which would ensure a sound financial base for the long term.

"Short-term fixes are not a solution.

"If you plant a tree and pull it up every six months to see how the roots are doing, it will never produce fruit.

"I am not one to shirk a challenge and I don't intend to start now.

"The aim is to deliver two successful sports clubs and better facilities for the whole of Huddersfield and Kirklees, to restore the sporting pride of the town.

"We're building something which in the long term, will be to the benefit of the whole community.

"That's why we invest hundreds of thousands in the Town Academy, and also invest in the community work and schools work carried out by both clubs."
