MARTIN McIntosh is back at Town - and pushing for a first-team recall.

But striker John McAliskey is on his way to Wrexham after Town boss Peter Jackson agreed a month-long loan deal with the League II club.

Experienced Scottish defender McIntosh was farmed out to Grimsby on loan after being dropped in the wake of Town's 2-1 opening-day League I defeat at Gillingham.

A groin injury restricted the 35-year-old to four out of a possible six League II appearances for the Mariners, who nonetheless wanted to keep him at Blundell Park for another month.

Jackson, eager to shore up a defence which leaked three goals in Saturday's home defeat by Yeovil, refused the request, and watched McIntosh come through a full training session up at Storthes Hall yesterday.

Now he could recall both the former Rotherham man and right-back Andy Holdsworth, who continued his recovery from shingles by playing for the Reserves in last night's 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury, for Saturday's crunch trip to face Swansea in South Wales.

"Martin has played regular games at Grimsby, which was the purpose of the exercise. We always said it would be for one month only," explained Jackson.

"Defensively, we have been inconsistent this season, and it's clear things have to change.

"Providing they are fit, both Tosh and Andy Holdsworth are in the frame for Swansea."

McAliskey, 22, played the first half of last night's second-team showdown at Gay Meadow, scoring an own goal!

He has figured just once for Town this season, coming off the bench during the 2-1 home win over Bristol City.
