Swans bounce back to go top

SWANSEA showed what Iain Dowie would call their “bouncebackability” by going to the top of League I this week.

Beaten 1-0 at home by Town a fortnight ago, they have responded with wins at Tranmere and at home to Hartlepool on Tuesday.

That elevated them above Leyton Orient, who hit the summit after last Saturday’s Galpharm victory over Town.

“Our performance really deserved a win and the boys really deserve to sit on top of the league,” said Swansea’s Spanish manager Roberto Martinez.

“We kept our concentration and kept doing the right things. I thought some of the passing and movement in the first half was outstanding.”

The former Swansea player added: “With a bit more confidence – which a better home record would give us – we would have got the reward of goals and that would have made it a bit easier.

“But overall the performance was very pleasing. It was a fantastic advert for League I football.”

Town are 13th in the table, with Wednesday’s hosts Southend eighth, three points higher.

The Shrimpers, in FA Cup action at Blue Square Premier side Oxford today, will be chasing a first win in four league games.
