We got what we deserved admits Cam

DISAPPOINTED Cameron Jerome reflected on Birmingham’s defeat and admitted: “Town deserved their victory.”

The Huddersfield-born striker, 21, went on after 61 minutes at the Galpharm (to a crescendo of boos from home fans) with the intention of grabbing a Birmingham winner, but instead he had to watch Chris Brandon deliver for Town.

“We are very disappointed to lose, especially in the manner we did, but we didn’t deserve to come out with anything because Town were the better side and, in the end, deserved their victory,” said Jerome, whose father Hanson was a well-known local player.

“The manager had a go at us but I don’t think a lot needed to be said. It’s important we look at the Premier League now and if we thought it was a battle against Town, we’ve got one hell of a battle to stay in the Premier League.

“We’ve got to pick ourselves up and it will be all guns blazing next week against Arsenal, which is a totally different challenge. We’ve got to get our heads up and stay focused now for the test which is ahead of us – and that’s staying in the Premier League.”

On his reception, Jerome said: “It didn’t bother me because it’s part and parcel of football. I got 10 times worse when I went back to Cardiff last season!

“My family and friends were at the game and my mates who support Town have been giving me a bit of banter. I just laugh and take it on the chin.”
