We can win it!

GOALKEEPER Matt Glennon believes Town’s FA Cup fourth-round trip to League I rivals Oldham later this month presents the perfect chance of making the last 16.

But the 29-year-old stopper, in fine form as Premier League Birmingham were beaten 2-1 in the third round on Saturday, warned: “They’ll be thinking exactly the same thing.”

Town are likely to be given around 4,000 tickets for the trans-Pennine derby, which is pencilled in for Saturday, January 26.

It’s a clash of the giant-killers, with John Sheridan’s Latics having won 2-1 at Everton on Saturday.

And it gives Town manager Andy Ritchie, a close friend of Sheridan, the chance to return to the club for whom he twice played in FA Cup semi-finals and later managed.

Town have drawn their last two games against Oldham – where Ritchie lives – with both the Boundary Park clash last April and the Galpharm meeting in October finishing 1-1.

The Latics are currently a point and a place above Town, who are 14th.

“We’ve got similar records to each other, and both of us have been inconsistent this time,” added Glennon.

“Obviously a lot of the fans would have liked another Premier League club, and to be truthful, the players would as well.

“But if you can’t have that, you want a tie that you have a realistic chance of winning, and while it will be tough, we can certainly make round five.”

Glennon, who will be playing in the fourth round for the first time, added: “There should be a good atmosphere.

“It’s a tight ground and the crowd are right on top of you, so with a few in, the place should be rocking.”

Town, who tackle Gillingham in a League I game at the Galpharm on Saturday, say they have had no contact from Preston, who are believed to be interested in Nathan Clarke.

The centre-back returns from a one-match ban on Saturday.
