TOWN young guns Shane Killock and Simon Eastwood have signed new contracts.
Centre-back Killock, a second-year academy player who made his debut at Crewe back in September, has been handed a contract through to the 2009 close-season.
And England age-group goalkeeper Eastwood, a first-year professional who is currently on the comeback trail from a fractured foot, has agreed terms until 2010.
Manager Andy Ritchie broke off from preparing for Saturday’s League I trip to Brighton to watch on as the 18-year-olds put pen to paper.
“There’s plenty we can work with in both cases,” said the Galpharm boss.
“Shane showed his potential in that game at Crewe, and he’s been on the bench (eight times) since, giving him useful experience of the first-team scene.
“Simon was second to Matt Glennon in the pecking order before getting his injury, and it’s been a bit tough for him looking on while Alex Smithies got the chance to play at Leeds because Matt was suspended.
“But his attitude has remained excellent, and the new contract will be a real boost for him.”
Eastwood is now able to run again and could be back in full training the week after next.
Killock was due to play for the reserves at Bradford yesterday, but the Pontin’s Holidays League match was postponed because of waterlogging at Valley Parade.
Depending on a pitch inspection, the clubs were possibly going to play the match today instead.
