Good luck to Mark Stimson, the Gillingham manager, for putting his case and convincing the FA that the red card was the wrong decision, but it does ask questions about why our appeal over Matt Glennon’s sending off at Southend last month was unsuccessful.
All I can say was that at the time the tackle was made, both myself and Martyn Booty said the lad was going to get sent off.
He went in two-footed in what I thought was a reckless manner and caught Frank Sinclair, who I thought did well to stay on his feet, rather than go down. But he still felt the impact of the tackle to the degree that he had to come off.
How the powers that be can rescind that one and not Matt Glennon’s, when we had written evidence from Southend that their player had not been fouled, baffles me.
HAVE there been any enquiries for any of our players so far during the transfer window?
James, Lowerhouses
We have heard rumours, which abound at this time of the season, but there has been no contact from any club either to sign a player or take one on loan.
TWO of our young players have just signed new contracts. Will any more be offered?
Heather, Huddersfield
There are no plans to offer any other deals at this stage of the campaign.
Shane Killock’s situation is unusual because while he is a second-year academy player, he is a year older than the others because he had a spell at college before joining the club full-time.
Because of that and the progress he has shown since his debut at Crewe, we wanted to have him on the same terms as his contemporaries.
With Simon Eastwood, we thought that given the promise he shows, we wanted to get him on a longer deal.
We are in a healthy situation in having two excellent young keepers here in Alex Smithies, who is still an academy player, and Simon.
Simon has been unlucky with his foot injury, but is on the road to recovery and will be back soon.
HOW do you rate Robbie Williams’ performances for the club so far?
Brian, Holmfirth
He’s been in that cycle of having a good game, then a couple where he’s not been up to the standard he and I know he’s capable of.
We’ve spoken about it, and we’re in agreement that we’ve not yet seen the best of him.
It’s all to do with getting that match sharpness, and Robbie needs to play the games to reach his maximum.
Like Phil Jevons, it’s been tough that his arrival on the scene has come at a busy time of the season, with two games a week over Christmas, and that has tested the pair of them.
Overall, I’ve been pleased with both Robbie and Phil, and the good thing is there is more to come from both.
IN Monday’s Examiner, you said you were looking at options to bring in new blood because of a ‘no-show’ display against Gillingham. How many more chances are the no-show players going to get. Does no-one get transfer-listed these days?
Graham, Holmfirth
Our squad size means we’re not really in a position to make any players available for transfer. We need every available person.
We’re still actively seeking new blood, but any incoming player must be better than the existing personnel.
