RISING Town star James Berrett has been named in the latest Republic of Ireland Under 19 squad.
The side will play two matches against the Czech Republic, both in Drogheda, on Tuesday, February 5 and Thursday 7.
Berrett, who went on as a substitute at Oldham last season, made his full debut in Town’s FA Cup third-round win over Birmingham three weeks ago.
He also started in the 3-1 home League I defeat by Gillingham and came off the bench in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton.
Graham Carey (Celtic), James McCarthy (Hamilton), Harry Arter (Charlton), Paul Cahillane (Celtic) and Donal McDermott (Manchester City) are Berrett’s rivals for a midfield berth.
Manager Sean McCaffrey, who has named a 20-strong squad, said: “These matches are extremely important for the future development of the players, especially when you consider this Czech Republic team were Under 17 European finalist two years ago.
Town goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, who is back in full training after a foot injury, is on standby for England Under 19s’ match against Croatia at Swindon on February 5.
