Midfield challenge suits Holdsworth

ANDY HOLDSWORTH is hoping he and fellow Town academy product Jon Worthington can underpin a quick climb up the League I table.

The 24-year-old is now very much a midfielder after coming through the ranks as a right-back, a fact underlined last night when boss Andy Ritchie chose Michael Collins, rather than Holdsworth, to drop back when Frank Sinclair was forced to withdraw after suffering a back spasm during the warm-up.

While he admits to finding things strange at first, Holdsworth is enjoying the different challenges.

“It’s more of a battle, because in midfield, you have to win the second ball if not the first, while at right-back, you’re more of an outlet,” he explained.

“But I’m enjoying playing alongside Worthy and helping the team grind out wins, like we did against Bournemouth.

“We desperately wanted the three points because the bottom four were getting closer to us.

“Now we have to be ready for another battle down at Yeovil on Saturday.”
