Death of Edith Hargreaves

TOWN’S staff and members of the Supporters Club are mourning Edith Hargreaves, left, who has died aged 85.

A lifelong Town fan, she became actively involved with the Supporters Club after the death of her husband John, who gave his name to the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy.

It is presented to Town’s Player of the Year at the end of each season, with Terry Dolan the first winner in 1974-75.

A regular both home and away up to this season, Mrs Hargreaves, who died at Cowlersley Court Nursing Home, continued coming to games at the Galpharm even after becoming ill and entering hospital.

Her last visit was for the 1-0 win over Swindon last month.

Supporters Club member Maureen Procter said: “Edith will be very sadly missed by many people.

“She had a lot of friends at the football club and was well known for her persuasive selling of raffle tickets at the annual presentation night.

“With two sons and two daughters, Edith was a great-grandmother, and I know the whole family is steeped in supporting Town.

“Edith attended Football Supporters Federation meetings at a national level and also watched the Giants.”
