DANNY BROADBENT earned Town Reserves a 1-0 win at Oldham last night – but there was more to cheer for watching manager Andy Ritchie.
Not only did teenage prospect Broadbent confirm his form with an early winner, but defenders David Mirfin and Joe Skarz returned from injury to complete the full 90 minutes.
That could put them in contention for returns to the senior squad against Oldham at the same venue on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood also played the whole match, making a fine save to deny Nathan Kilcourse and then a brilliant late effort to keep out Ryan Brooke.
Broadbent’s goal came when he beat keeper Josh Ollerenshaw from a tight angle in the box after Lucas Akins had nodded through.
And Town were unlucky not to go further ahead when Tom Clarke, back from his loan at Halifax, had a shot blocked on the line.
The first half was marred for Town when Tom Jackson was carried off on a stretcher after being injured.
Town: Eastwood, Racchi, Codman, Skarz, Mirfin, Clarke, Roberts (Ridehalgh, 76mins), Bailey, Akins, Broadbent (Heagney, 30mins), Jackson (Harris, 36mins). Subs not used: Hunt, Smithies.
