Page handed Town armband in Worthy move

ROBERT PAGE will captain Town for the rest of the season.

The move has been made so that Jon Worthington can concentrate on rediscovering his best form.

Worthington, 25 later this month, has been plagued by injuries this term and caretaker manager Gerry Murphy – who has guided the midfielder’s career through the academy – believes he’ll benefit from relinquishing the armband.

Page, of course, is a vastly experienced international and has already led Town in Worthington’s absence this season.

“I’ve had a long chat with Jonathan Worthington and, given the season he has had, we both feel it would be best at this stage for him to concentrate on his football,” explained Murphy.

“Robert Page is a very vocal and experienced player who pulls people around him.

“He’s been doing that all week on the training ground and I’m sure he’ll do it in the remaining games of the season.”

David Mirfin was all set for a recall against Doncaster Rovers at the Galpharm today in a reshaped Town team from the one which was beaten 4-1 at Oldham last Saturday in Andy Ritchie’s last match at the helm.
