STAN TERNENT says he wouldn’t have taken on the mission of getting Town promoted if he didn’t think he could be successful.

The 61-year-old believes Town have the potential to be an established Championship club “at least” and reckons they have been under-achieving.

“It’s a massive club with a lot of potential, and I’m excited about the challenges ahead,” he said.

“Nothing comes easy, but we’ll be giving it a damn good go, and if we don’t succeed, it won’t be for the want of trying.”

Ternent, who had been working as assistant to Paul Jewell at Derby County, confirmed he hadn’t applied for the job.

“Huddersfield approached Derby last weekend and asked for permission to talk to me,” he explained. “I met the board and heard what they had to say, and it didn’t take me long to decide I fancied the challenge.

“My Derby contract ran for another three years, but I had an agreement that I could leave if it was to become a manager, and Huddersfield is a great job.”

Of his relationship with Ronnie Jepson, Ternent added: “We go back a long way and we work well together. It’s good to have him on board with me.”
