Matt next on agenda

STAN TERNENT will start his first full week as Town manager by trying to thrash out a new contract with goalkeeper Matt Glennon.

STAN TERNENT will start his first full week as Town manager by trying to thrash out a new contract with goalkeeper Matt Glennon.

And he’ll leave Gerry Murphy to prepare the team for the final game of the League I season at Luton on Saturday while he does it.

Ternent and assistant Ronnie Jepson looked on from the directors’ box as caretaker manager Murphy guided Town to a 2-0 win over Walsall on Saturday.

It was a third straight victory for Murphy, who is unbeaten in his five matches at the helm since the departure of Andy Ritchie.

Now he’ll get the chance to make it four wins in succession as Ternent gets to grips with his new job.

“I’ve got to work quickly in terms of assessing the squad and thinking about new contracts, so it makes sense for Gerry to continue the good work he’s been doing” said Ternent, who marked his first day in office last Friday by agreeing a new one-year deal with Andy Booth.

The striker celebrated by scoring the second goal against Walsall, when 9,969 (366 visiting fans) saw departing Danny Schofield notch the first and Glennon keep a fourth successive clean sheet.

Glennon rejected the original terms put forward by Town and Ternent said: “I understand the situation is ongoing and we’ll see where we can get to.

“I rate Matt Glennon highly and like Andy Booth, I see him as an integral part of my plans here.”
