We’ll stay close to home in build-up

STAN TERNENT has fixed up a pre-season return to former club Bury – and he’s planning to keep Town’s other friendlies within easy travelling distance.

Town will go to Gigg Lane, where Ternent was manager between September 1995 and June 1998, on Saturday, July 19 (3.00).

And the Galpharm chief is currently working on a schedule which he hopes will involve another three or four games leading up to the centenary match at home to Arsenal on Wednesday, August 6.

“The Arsenal game is a good one, but in line with previous seasons, it will be our only home friendly,” said Ternent, who first linked up with his right-hand man Ronnie Jepson at Bury, where he won promotions from Leagues II and I.

“I’m keen to keep the other ones reasonably close, because that will help both the players and fans.

“We want good work-outs with the aim of ensuring we are as prepared as possible, both physically and mentally, to hit the ground running when the real action starts (on Saturday, August 9).”

Prices are yet to be confirmed for the game at Bury, who finished 13th in League II.

Tickets for the Arsenal game are on sale priced £15 adults, £10 OAPs and students and £5 juniors.
