I'm honoured to captain us, says Chris Lucketti

NEW signing Chris Lucketti accepted the Town captaincy and said: “It’s unexpected, but a real honour.”

The 36-year-old had the same role under Stan Ternent at Bury and also skippered Town in his first spell at the club.

The bulk of his 1999-2001 stint was in the Championship, and the centre-back, who has joined from Sheffield United on a two-year deal, accepts the pressure is on to get back there.

“I certainly won’t be satisfied with mid-table,” he said.

“The club have made great strides over the summer, and the fantastic season-ticket sales means expectation will be high.

“It’s pressure, but of a good sort, and the way I see it, it’s a challenge to which the players will enjoy responding.”

Lucketti played Championship football for Sheffield United and Southampton (on loan) last season and added: “I’ve dropped a division to sign, but I wouldn’t have done it for just any club.

“I know the potential here and I know the capabilities of Stan Ternent and Ronnie Jepson. Once I knew Town were in for me, signing was an easy decision.”

Manager Ternent said: “Chris is what I call a proper player – experienced, a great leader and a good guy.”
