Ternent handed first starts of the season to centre-back Nathan Clarke and striker Keigan Parker.

“The sponsors made Nathan man of the match and I wouldn’t disagree with them, although either Michael Flynn or Jon Worthington could have got it too,” he added.

“Keigan is lively and a dangerous customer, although he needs to learn to play with the people alongside him.”

Ternent takes his side to Millwall on Saturday seeking a first league victory and said: “If we can repeat that endeavour and commitment and channel it into the style and shape we want to play, we’ll be fine.”
