Town’s courage and conviction crucial

ANGER turned to delight for Stan Ternent as he compared Town’s 3-2 Galpharm victory over Northampton to the previous week’s 2-1 setback at home to Tranmere.

“I’m delighted for the players, because they showed a bit of courage and a bit of conviction,” said the manager, whose side climbed eight places to 15th in League I.

After conceding the first goal to Luke Guttridge in the 25th minute, Town carved out a 3-1 advantage through Andy Booth’s 34th-minute equaliser and Michael Flynn’s 64th and 78th-minute shots.

Liam Davis headed home in the first of four minutes of stoppage time to ensure Town fans in a 12,414 crowd (296 from Northampton) faced an edgy wait before being able to celebrate a first home league win of the campaign.

“We got a bit nervy towards the end, but all’s well that ends well,” added Ternent, who made five changes to his starting line-up and in the absence through injury of Chris Lucketti handed the captain’s armband to Booth, whose goal was his second of the season and 144th for the club.
