Town to face leaders in next test

TOWN will cross the Pennines on Saturday aiming to become the first team to beat Oldham in a League I game this season.

John Sheridan’s leaders maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-3 draw at Hartlepool, although Sean Gregan’s red card means the defender will be suspended against Stan Ternent’s team.

Lee Hughes scored a close-range header, his fifth goal of the campaign, to give Oldham a 21st-minute lead.

Chris Taylor then doubled the advantage just before the break.

But Hartlepool were ahead just eight minutes into the second half, through Andy Monkhouse, Antony Sweeney and Joel Porter (penalty).

Taylor’s 18-yard shot (he has six for the season) levelled it after 58 minutes and the Latics survived after Gregan’s 74th-minute dismissal for a professional foul on Porter.

Carlisle’s 100% home record came to an end after goals from Luciano Becchio and Jermaine Beckford gave third-placed Leeds a 2-0 win at Brunton Park.
