MICHAEL FLYNN has called on Town fans to help the team become the first to topple leaders Oldham in a League I match this season.

It’s all-ticket in the away section at a now three-sided Boundary Park on Saturday, and more than 1,000 have already been sold.

Flynn fired home two goals to help Town beat Northampton 3-2 at the Galpharm last Saturday, and he’s hoping the win will encourage even more to make the short trans-Pennine trip.

“I thought our supporters were tremendous,” said the former Blackpool midfielder, who now has three goals for the season.

“Given the previous week’s defeat to Tranmere, it would have been easy for them to turn on us when we went a goal down to Northampton.

“But they stayed patient, and it was great to be able to reward them with a first home league win. Now we’re looking to build on that.

“Oldham have some good players and have started the season really well, but we’ve got some quality in our squad too, and the signs are we’re starting to gel.

“If we work as hard in training this week as we did last and go about things the same way as we did against Northampton, there’s no reason we can’t get something.”

Town’s visit is sure to attract Oldham’s best crowd yet, with Latics officials concerned at the low turn-outs so far.

The best is 5,530 for the 2-0 win over MK Dons in the last home game. That followed figures of 5,367 for the 4-3 win over Millwall and 4,673 for the 4-0 defeat of Cheltenham.

Capacity at Boundary Park is down to 10,638 following demolition of the Broadway side of the ground (opposite the main stand and to the right when looking from the away end).

The away end is now in two sections, with Town being given the larger 2,700-capacity area which this season houses home supporters.

That means some Oldham season-ticket holders are being relocated, as they will when the Latics host Leicester and Leeds later in the season.

Town reserves have a Central League game against Hartlepool at the Galpharm tomorrow (7.00).

Oldham’s second team, who no longer play in the Central League, have a home Manchester Senior Cup tie against Stockport.
