Ternent says he wants the Wembley way in cup

“Other than the play-offs – and of course automatic promotion is preferable – the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy provides the most realistic route to a Wembley appearance,” said Ternent.

“Getting to the final would provide a great experience for the players and a great day out for the fans, and I would love to take us there.

“The competition is a bit of a slow burner, because it starts to capture the imagination only in the later rounds.

“Hopefully we’ll still be involved in that stage, although we’ll show respect to Darlington, because they will be looking for a good run as well.

“It’s certainly a tie I want to win, and I’ll field the strongest side I can.”

Darlington, managed by Dave Penney, are 10th in League II after a 1-1 home draw with Shrewsbury on Saturday.
