Gerry Murphy column: There's plenty of spark

THE main message I’ve been trying to get across to the players in the last few days is that I want them to play with a smile on their face.

Everyone is human and we are bound to make mistakes in the games coming up, but there will be no rollickings because I want the lads to play with freedom.

It’s important to me that they are relaxed on the field while maintaining the disciplines that are vital for the team.

And I’ve told them all how I like the game to be played – getting it down and playing from the back, with passing and movement.

I want to see them enjoying themselves, though. We don’t have to go on our holidays together or anything like that, but while we are here it’s important we play with a smile and do our best, because that will benefit the club and it will benefit ourselves.
