Murphy dedicates derby win to Huddersfield Town fans

GERRY MURPHY took pride in his second derby victory over Leeds but insisted: “It’s for the fans.”

Saturday’s exciting 2-1 success at Elland Road, sealed by Michael Collins’ stoppage-time volley after Joe Skarz had struck 27 seconds into the second half to cancel out a fourth-minute Leeds opener by Robert Snodgrass, followed Town’s 1-0 win over their West Yorkshire rivals at the Galpharm in April.

“It’s the game the supporters look forward to and we said beforehand we had to work hard, stick together and win it for them,” said Murphy after the second game of his third spell as caretaker manager.

“The players have prepared well all week and they deserved a win which could turn the season for us.”

The lunchtime victory, which came in front of 32,028, lifted Town to 14th and means they head to Brighton on Saturday seeking a third successive League I win.
