Luke Beckett on his time at Huddersfield Town

“I suppose I could have sat around and taken the money until the end of the season, but that’s not what I’m about.
“I train hard every day because I want to play games, and when I’m not playing, there’s no reward at the end of the week.
“The situation was making me pretty downhearted – at times I was close to jacking it in – and I actually spoke to Gerry when he took over from Andy Ritchie at the end of last season.
“He was great about it, just as he has been about my release this week, and I decided to give it another season.
“Stan Ternent tried to sort out a move to Bradford, but it fell through, and York didn’t come off either, but now I’ve signed for Gainsborough until the end of the season.”
Father-of-three Beckett, who showed he still has that scoring touch by netting a hat trick in the reserves’ recent 3-1 win over Bradford, had chances to stay in league football.
“Bournemouth was one of the options, but it would have meant a lot of travelling, overnight stays and being away from my family, and that’s not what I want,” he explained.
