Murphy hails both his goalkeepers

GERRY MURPHY praised the performance of teenage goalkeeper Alex Smithies and hailed the reaction of the man who made way for him after Town clinched the first home win of his third spell as caretaker manager.

Town’s 18-year-old England junior international was a surprise inclusion in place of the experienced Glennon, who was on the bench as Murphy’s side made it three wins in four matches to climb into the top half of the table for the first time this season.

It was only Smithies’ second league start and his first since the 4-0 defeat at Leeds a year ago today, with his only other outing this season coming in the 1-0 Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat at Darlington.
