Clark inheriting a good group at Huddersfield Town: Mitch

GRAHAM MITCHELL shrugged off the plaudits after Town’s 1-0 win at Southend, insisting: “It was down to the players, and I’m sure they will go on and perform exactly the same way for the new manager.”

With Gerry Murphy forced to miss the final match of his third spell as caretaker boss through illness, sidekick Mitchell stepped up to pilot Town to the fourth win of the duo’s six games in charge and their third on the trot away from home.

Lee Clark, confirmed as Town’s new manager on Thursday, watched from the Roots Hall directors’ box along with his assistant Derek Fazackerley as Ian Craney scored a 48th-minute winner and 18-year-old goalkeeper Alex Smithies made a crucial 83rd-minute penalty save from James Walker.
