Midfielders are in for a treat says Clark

LEE CLARK says every Town player will benefit from the arrival of Terry McDermott – but especially the midfielders.

The hugely experienced 57-year-old was today helping Clark, coach Derek Fazackerley and performance coach Steve Black prepare the squad for Friday’s trip to Carlisle.

Appointed less than 24 hours before, the former Liverpool, Newcastle and England star was in the dug-out for Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Hereford.

He was quick to praise each player at the conclusion, and former Newcastle, Sunderland and Fulham midfielder Clark said: “Terry will be great for the boys here.”

Clark was a Newcastle player when McDermott had the first of his two spells on the St James’ Park coaching staff (they ran from 1992-99 and 2005 until September).

“Terry is a very important part of my backroom team here, because I know from experience what he brings.

“He played at the very highest level, and while he’s not one to talk about his own playing career, it’s given him a wealth of experience.

“While Steve Black talks to the players in terms of fitness and motivation, Terry will help them enormously with regard to tactics.
