Match report: Carlisle United 3 - 0 Huddersfield Town

TOWN’S hopes of a seventh win in eight League I games were comprehensively crushed as Carlisle belied their lowly position to chalk up their first victory in five.

Clark started with the same XI as in the 2-0 home win over Hereford, but again switched from 5-3-2 to 4-4-2 during the second half, only this time to no avail.

Now he must be pondering how to approach tomorrow’s tough-looking Galpharm showdown with Scunthorpe.

One thing’s for sure – Town can’t afford to make such a sluggish start as they did yesterday.

They might have had the first shot, Gary Roberts driving wide after good approach play by Robbie Williams and Michael Collins with just 39 seconds on the clock.

But the early home attacks had far more menace, and Taylor had a low shot deflected for a corner by Nathan Clarke and Danny Livesey a header saved by Alex Smithies before Carlisle’s top scorer Graham netted his 13th of the campaign.

The troublesome Taylor, who had combined well with David Raven to take play deep into Town territory, took control from a throw-in and fired in a low cross from the right to the near post where the former Middlesbrough man swivelled past Smithies and shot home.
