Goal man Goodwin looks forward with Huddersfield Town

THERE’S never a bad time to score a goal as the old saying goes – but Jim Goodwin picked the perfect moment to register his first for Town.
Not only did his diving header against Scunthorpe provide the crucial breakthrough as Lee Clark’s side battled to bounce back from their Boxing Day defeat at Carlisle.
But it came against his former club, and silenced the many among the 1,641 visiting contingent in a 15,228 crowd who had booed his every move.
Their reaction disappointed the midfielder, whose three seasons at Glanford Park included the League I promotion of 2007 which he hopes to replicate with Town.
And the jeers were a contributory factor as the 27-year-old marked the 65th-minute strike which paved the way to a 2-0 victory with a spot of badge brandishing.
Goodwin’s old Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins looked distinctly unimpressed, but the Republic of Ireland international remains unperturbed.
“It’s always great to score a goal, and I’ve waited quite a while for my first for Town,” said Goodwin, who now has 17 in a career which has also taken in Celtic and Stockport.
