“Gary is essentially a wide player, so to score 11 goals is superb, and it’s great to have a midfielder chipping in with that kind of tally,” he said.

“We all know Andy Booth is chasing his 150th goal for the club, and if both he and Gary could feature on the scoresheet, it would be a great.”

Town could have Roberts’ fellow wideman Anthony Pilkington back at Brisbane Road, where they will bid to avenge a 1-0 home defeat.

The former Stockport star has missed two games because of a groin problem but is doing well in training, and Clark is optimistic.

“If there’s any element of risk, Anthony won’t play, but he’s coming along nicely, and it would be great to see him involved,” he said.
