Steve Black column: We're in the top six
HI THERE! It’s the last game of the season and a personal review is in order, so here goes.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here this season. A smashing group of players, a wonderful backroom team and a passionate and committed set of fans have certainly helped!
Since we’ve come here we are in a play-off position, ie. had the league started the weekend we came we would be in the top six.
We had a crazy couple of weeks when we lost games in extra time, and that cost us dearly. We could have sneaked into this season’s play-off shake-up had it not been for that couple of weeks.
But we’ve learned from that and in the last six games we lead the league, and I’m pleased about that because the teams we’ve played have almost all had something to play for, making the play-offs or avoiding relegation, while in contrast we’ve played for pride and personal integrity.
With that in mind I think this group of players have come through that test with flying colours. Good on you all!
Our management team have settled well and we’re enjoying working together.
We are all different and bring something specific to the table that can best help guide and support the team.
While I bring svelte good looks and charm, the other lads have less obvious attributes that are no less effective or necessary to the team’s cause.
Together, most ably led by Lee, we are united in our belief that success will be inevitable if we continue to improve our training and playing standards as we’ve done this season.
We’ve some superb young talent at the club who can drive the team onwards and upwards! To and through the championship over the next couple of years. I’m not being flippant, I’m being optimistic and expectant.
I know it’ll take an enormous effort from everyone at and associated with the team, and I know we’ll need to get our fair share of rub of the green.
